Abhishek Sharma, the youthful opener for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), made history on Saturday by becoming the highest-scoring Indian player in the history of the IPL. Sharma, who was born in Amritsar, Punjab, on September 4, 2000, has risen quickly in the Indian cricket ranks. Both domestically and internationally, he has demonstrated his talent.

Under the guidance of his father, Raj Kumar Sharma, who had experience in sports, Sharma began playing cricket at a very young age. Leading India’s Under-19 squad to victory in the 2016 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup garnered him media attention. He was also a key member of the victorious team for the 2018 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. After making his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut with the Delhi Daredevils in 2018, he went on to play in the top order for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Sharma struck an incredible 141 runs in just 55 balls, including 10 sixes and 14 fours, against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), displaying his peak form. With an amazing strike rate of 256.36 during his innings, SRH was able to chase a massive 246. With his outstanding play, Abhishek became the highest-scoring Indian in IPL history, surpassing KL Rahul’s 132-run mark in 2020.

His 141 is currently the third-highest IPL total, behind only Brendon McCullum’s 158 and Chris Gayle’s legendary 175. Interestingly, 116 of his runs came from the boundaries, shattering the previous SRH record of 90, which was held by Jonny Bairstow. In addition, he broke David Warner’s record of eight sixes in an inning, hitting ten, the most by an SRH hitter.

 

PBKS decided to bat first and amassed 245/6, with Marcus Stoinis scoring 34 off 11 and Shreyas Iyer smashing 82 off 36 balls. However, SRH put up a fierce fightback thanks to an opening 171-run partnership between Travis Head and Abhishek. Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan’s last contributions helped SRH easily chase down the score.

According to records, this chase ranks as the second-highest successful run chase in IPL history.After this win, SRH moved up to the eighth position in the standings.
