The world of beauty pageants, particularly in England, has changed significantly over the years. Previously, candidates were judged using the now-outdated, well-known bikini modeling round; today, candidates are judged based on their ability to perform life-saving CPR.
A brand-new CPR Queen competition will take the place of the bikini round in the Miss England pageant. This gesture, which marks a switch from catwalks to chest compression, was inspired by lifeguard and CPR advocate Milla Magee. By doing away with its antiquated swimsuit round, the pageant is updating its 97-year-old competition. The beauty pageant competitors will now be evaluated on more poignant life-saving techniques including mouth-to-mouth revival and chest compressions.
The reigning Miss World England, Milla Magee, took the initiative to replace the conventional bikini modeling round with the recently added CPR Queen competition. After experiencing a personal tragedy that left her family struggling because of an emergency, she became a certified lifeguard and a fervent supporter of CPR training.
“No one knew what to do when my grandparents suffered heart attacks at home,” Milla Magee said in an interview with South West News Service. Family members waited for assistance, but it arrived too late.
“Perhaps their story and mine would have been different if just one of them had known CPR,” Milla continued.
Contestants are encouraged to demonstrate their understanding of chest compressions in novel ways in this brand-new CPR Queen competition. This will guarantee that they are either sharing these life-saving methods online with a wider audience or instructing their communities.
Personal interviews, swimsuit modeling, athletic attire, formal evening wear, live question rounds, and more are typically included in the Miss England competition.
